I’m a sucker for trying new recipes. Sometimes they work out, and sometimes they don’t. When this recipe for “Magic Cleaner” showed up on Facebook, I decided to give it a shot. What lured me in was the promise of just spraying on, letting it set overnight, and by morning all the grime would just easily wipe away.
This recipe is very similar to a shower/bathroom cleaner that I make. The only addition is lemon juice and water. (But sometimes I do add water to my shower cleaner to stretch it out a little more.) Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup Dawn
- 1/2 cup lemon juice
- 1 cup vinegar
- 1 1/4 cups water
Mix everything in a spray bottle and shake well.
Is this cleaner the miracle it claims to be? One area that I avoid cleaning until it is so bad I can’t avoid it anymore is my oven. And isn’t it great that the oven in our house doesn’t have a self-cleaning feature?! (There is a bit of sarcasm there. What companies make ovens without self-cleaners anymore?) 😉
Oddly enough, my oven isn’t very bad right now. Regardless of the bacon that I let bake and spatter in there….
So what would be even worse than my oven is one of my cookie sheets. I really do wash it. But I have kind of let it go….All of the baked on grease, stuck on bits…I just kind of ignore those and use it anyway. It even has a sticky residue on it that I can’t get rid of.
I sprayed it heavily with the miracle cleaner. Then I sprayed it some more. I sprayed until there was a shallow pool of cleaner on this cookie sheet.
I waited until morning, until it was good and dry. Just like the instructions said to do. I took a wet rag, wiped, and here’s what it looked like afterward.
Yes, this is the same picture. (I was so bummed I forgot to take an “after” shot.) 😉
It didn’t even get rid of the sticky residue.
But I wasn’t ready to give up just yet.
I sprayed around my kitchen sink. But this time, instead of letting it dry, I waited five minutes or so and then wiped. The grime from around the sink wiped off pretty easily!
So shiny, you can easily see my reflection. 🙂
But what I found to be most awesome was the way it took care of fried-on residue on my stainless-steel pan.
I had made deer sausage one day for dinner, and I always like to fry it for a few minutes per side after it’s done boiling to give it a little more color and texture. I have stainless-steel cookware which is nonstick, meaning when I fry, clean-up is not fun.
I was doing dishes and decided to spray a little miracle cleaner in my pan. I sprayed. And sprayed. I once again sprayed until I had a nice pool at the bottom of the pan. This sat while I did the rest of my dishes, so for maybe 10 minutes.
When just the pan was left, I grabbed my little square scraper thing that I like to use and put it to work against the fried-on sausage gunk. I was a little amazed. With little effort at all, the fried-on residue wiped right off.
So I grabbed my camera, took a picture, and realized that I did in fact find a miracle use for this miracle cleaner. 🙂
